About John Ugelstad
Scope of the
The Ugelstad Laboratory was founded
at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in January 2002 to
commemorate the late Professor John Ugelstad.
specialises in surfactant chemistry and its technical applications, emulsions
and emulsion technology, preparation of polymers and polymer particles and
their technical applications, plasma chemical modification of surfaces and
Applications include crude oil production and
processing, pulp and paper, biomedicine, catalysis and materials science.
The main purpose is to raise the national level of colloidal

The Research Council of Norway has approved our proposal "An Integrated Approach to Interfacial / Surface Processes in Crude Oil Systems"
with a budget of 9,2 MNOK (1,6 MUSD) for the years 2006 - 2009.
In this project we will collaborate with IFE, others at NTNU and our international contacts.
The Research Council of Norway has approved the proposal for the Flow Assurance Innovation Centre (FACE) by IFE, SINTEF and NTNU, where Ugelstad Laboratory is one partner. The total budget per today is 240 MNOK (about 40 MUSD) for the years 2006 - 2013. In addition to the partners above the industrial consortium consists of (per today) the oil companies ConocoPhillips, Norsk Hydro, Statoil , TOTAL and the vendors Aker Kvaerner, Scandpower and Vetco. In addition to these companies we will collaborate with national and international universities and research institutes.
Dr. Wilhelm Glomm has been appointed Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, NTNU.
